It came on time
"Forward" Canvas Art by IKONICK. The only way.
Slow and steady only wins the race if you are moving forward.
We put a lot of emphasis on speed in life, while direction is constantly underrated. But life is a marathon, not a sprint. As long as you keep moving forward, you will get to where you are headed.
Consider the tortoise. For such a slow creature, a long journey seems insurmountable. It would take two and a half years for one to walk across the USA. But consistency conquers all. And if there's one thing the reptilian brain is built for, it's repetition. In fact, if a tortoise kept a constant pace, it could cross the country 46 times in its life!
Persistence is what counts. Every step forward is one step closer to the goal. But be patient with your progress, no matter how slow it might feel. If you are pointed in the right direction, it's only a matter of time until you get there.
The way the Colorado river carved out the Grand Canyon is the same way the ancient Egyptians built the Great Pyramid of Giza out of 2.3 million stones: Little by little. Glaciers move less than 10 inches in a day, yet not even the hardest rock can stop their path.
The point is, consistent forward progress is unstoppable. But there are two sides of that: Figuring out where your "forward" is, and then persisting in the face of every obstacle in the way.
The first part is easy. Think about what you would do with your time if no one was paying you, then figure out what the road to that result looks like.
But the second part is where all the work comes in. Consistency isn't easy—it's relentless. There is no slowing down, and no stopping. You have to keep the same drive when the road is uphill through the wind and rain, as you do when the finish line is in sight.
Tortoises have it easy. With eyes on the side of their heads, they have difficulty looking forward and judging distance. For them, it’s head down and one foot in front of the other.
We humans are more prone to distractions. Everywhere we look there's an alternative to hard work. Excuses. Compromises. An easy way out. It takes more than limited vision to keep us on track. We have to be diligent and unyielding in our effort. We have to know the way forward and stick to it.
